The volunteer crews of the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue • Station 2 (SAR2) provide dedicated Marine Search & Rescue services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Station 2 is based at Lynnwood Marina in North Vancouver, British Columbia, with an area of responsibility covering English Bay to the west, Port Moody Inlet to the east, and north to the tip of Indian Arm. We operate in one of the busiest and most challenging ports in Canada.
Station 2 is one of 40 marine rescue stations along the coast of British Columbia that are part of the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue (RCMSAR) organization. RCMSAR is a key component in the BC marine search & rescue system. Our volunteers handle more than 600 marine emergencies every year. We stand ready to leave our jobs and our families on a moment’s notice to help people in trouble on the water.

SAR Member Criteria
SAR Crew intakes take place twice a year in May and Oct. only.
Initial criteria required for a crew member in Search & Rescue Operations:
- Marine Experience (preferred)
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card
After joining, a crew member will require:
- Restricted Operator Certificate – Maritime (ROC-M)
- First Aid Certificate (with CPR level C)
All prospective members must clear an RCMP Criminal Record Check.
Volunteers receive no remuneration for any aspect of their Search and Rescue activities. Our members receive ongoing training in many aspects of Marine Search and Rescue and in turn are expected to commit time and effort on their part. Unit members are expected to help maintain and clean the boat, and participate in the occasional public-relations and fund-raising events.
Prospective active crew members for SAR vessels should:- Live within a 15 minute response time of Lynnwood Marina (vessel base)
- Physically fit and able to withstand the rigours of rough weather conditions and long periods of exposure in all weather conditions
- Understand that some risk is involved
- Boating experience an asset
- Ability to think and react quickly to changing situations
- Be reliable and dedicated
